Procore says items moved into a recycle bin cannot be permanently deleted or removed from Procore. Whether you can get them back depends on the tool. RFIs, submittals, documents and photos can be retrieved, while commitments, meetings and specifications cannot, and you need access to the project to try.
Get back a deleted or overwritten project record, even when the recycle bin cannot.
Procore and Autodesk Forma and BIM 360 have recycle bins, and Oracle Aconex does not let you delete documents at all, but each only helps while you still have access and the right permissions. SIINC keeps the earlier version in Amazon S3 or Azure Blob Storage you own, ready to restore into the platform or download from a portal.

What goes wrong when construction project files and records are deleted?
- Procore's recycle bins work tool by tool. Procore says commitments, meetings, specifications and project-level equipment entries cannot be retrieved from the Recycle Bin.
- In Autodesk Docs you need Edit permission or above to restore deleted files and folders, and files inside a deleted folder cannot be restored on their own. You have to restore the whole folder.
- Every recycle bin lives inside the platform. When the project is archived or closed, or your access to another company's project ends, the recycle bin goes with it.
- A sync to SharePoint, Teams or Box copies the deletion across. Microsoft keeps deleted SharePoint items for 93 days, then deletes them permanently, so a mistake noticed in month four is gone from both places.
- Overwrites are quieter than deletions. A wrong file uploaded as a new version, or a register cleaned up in a hurry, leaves the project looking complete until someone needs the earlier version.
- Aconex documents cannot be deleted, but they can be hidden from your register or marked as no longer in use, and Oracle says a document marked no longer in use cannot be restored to current.
Which recovery option fits which kind of deleted project record?
For a file deleted yesterday on a live project, the platform's own recycle bin is usually the fastest fix. The further you are from the mistake, in time or in access, the more you depend on a copy held outside the platform.
The table compares the three places a deleted record can come back from: the platform itself, a sync target such as SharePoint or Box, and a scheduled backup in your own storage.
| Situation | Platform recycle bin or history | SharePoint or Box sync | Scheduled backup in your storage |
|---|---|---|---|
| A file deleted yesterday on a live project | Usually the fastest fix, if the tool supports retrieval and you have permission | From the recycle bin, within 93 days on SharePoint | Restore it into the platform, or download it, if the backup tool supports both |
| A whole folder deleted in Autodesk Forma or BIM 360 | Restore the folder from Deleted items, with Edit permission or above | The deletion is mirrored. Recycle bin within 93 days | The folder is still in the copy, ready to restore or download as a ZIP |
| A Procore commitment, meeting or specification deleted | Cannot be retrieved from the Procore Recycle Bin | Most syncs carry documents, not these records | Kept, if that component was selected for backup |
| A file overwritten with the wrong version | Version history in the platform. Aconex keeps every superseded version automatically | Depends on the target's version history settings | Earlier file versions are captured run after run |
| A mistake found after the project closed or your access ended | No access to the platform or its recycle bin | Files that were synced remain, but deletions past 93 days are gone | Still in your bucket |
When is a platform recycle bin enough to recover a deleted file?
When the project is live, you still have access, the tool supports retrieval and someone notices the mistake quickly. In that case, use it. Procore's Recycle Bin can retrieve RFIs, submittals, documents, photos, emails, forms, observations, punch list items and transmittals, among others, and Autodesk Docs puts deleted files and folders in Deleted items, where someone with Edit permission can restore them.
A backup earns its keep in the cases a recycle bin cannot reach.
- The deleted item is in a tool without retrieval, such as Procore commitments or meetings.
- Nobody with the right permission is available, or the person who deleted it was the admin.
- The mistake was an overwrite, not a deletion, and the earlier version matters.
- The project has been archived or closed, or it belongs to another company and your access has ended.
- The deletion was copied into SharePoint or Box and has since been purged there too.
How SIINC keeps deleted and overwritten project records
- Deletions kept for the plan term
- Sync runs copy only what changed since the last run, and keep anything deleted in the platform for the term of your plan. Deletions are mirrored into your backup only if you turn that on.
- Earlier file versions captured
- File versions are captured run after run, so a mistake in the platform does not overwrite the version you already hold.
- Restore it or download it
- Search the Procore Workbench, Autodesk Portal or Aconex Portal by project, module and record. Then restore the record into Procore, Autodesk or Aconex, into the same account or a different one, or download the file, the folder or a ZIP.
- Outside the platform and your access
- The copy sits in an Amazon S3 bucket or Azure Blob container in your own account, so it is still there after the project is archived, closed or taken out of your reach.
- Know when the project was last captured
- Execution history records every run with its scope, size, warnings and errors, so you can see which run came before the mistake.

Deleted project file recovery questions
Anyone with Edit permission or above. Autodesk Docs moves deleted files and folders to Deleted items, where they can be restored later. If the whole folder was deleted, restore the folder itself to get its files back.
No. Oracle's help says you cannot delete documents from Aconex, but you can hide one from your organisation's register, and it stays viewable in History. When a document is superseded, Aconex keeps every version automatically.
93 days. Microsoft keeps deleted SharePoint items in the recycle bin for 93 days from deletion, then deletes them permanently. If a sync carried the deletion across, that is the window you have.
No, not by default. SIINC Sync runs keep records and files that were deleted in Procore, Autodesk or Aconex for the term of your plan, and only mirror deletions if you turn that on. The deleted record stays in your storage, ready to restore into the platform or download.
